Giro del Capo is cancelled
It is with deep regret that the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust today announced that the 2011 edition of the Giro del Capo has been cancelled.
"Following months of discussions and negotiations with various potential sponsors, the required sponsorship has not been secured to ensure the running of next year’s event," confirmed the Trust’s CEO, David Bellairs.
"It is extremely difficult to secure major sponsorship deals in a niche sport like elite cycling, especially with the announcement of another major tour of a similar classification ending a week prior to when the Giro del Capo was scheduled to take place."
For the past 18 years the prestigious Giro del Capo has provided most local cyclists with their only opportunity to compete against top international cyclists.
