History
The Giro del Capo was first run in 1992.

Originally conceived at a meeting in June 1991 between the then Chairman of Pedal Power Lawrence Whittaker and Mike Brain as the Giro De Cap; it was initially established as a 4 stage event, culminating with the Argus Cycle Tour (as it was then known) itself and having of the order of 140 individually entered riders. The Prize fund for the first event was R 15 000. Total estimated cost of putting the event on was budgeted at R 80 000.

The Winner of that first Giro was South African Andrew McLean in 6:00:46
